“Pink” or was it?

I was recently in Buena Vista, CO taking one of my favorite long weekends away from work and  life in general.  Buena Vista is a place that has kept its small town vibe and which has exquisite scenery as well as a ton of outdoor activities that include Hiking 14ers, Kayaking and White Water Rafting to mention a few.  I like to visit alone and take time to reflect on the past and let it go, something we all need to do in order to move into the future and as always I frequent a few places in the evening. With my music blasting in my ears I like to sit and people watch, and this has become more of a thing for me through COVID19.  So I ended up at the Deerhammer Distillery, ordered a drink and of course social distanced, there were not any spots open at the tables outside and sitting inside was not possible during COVID19 so I planted myself on a stump at the back of the seating area up against a fence and watched, listening to my music.  You know it’s amazing to observe the different dynamics between couples, families and the interactions between all these people being both  the local patrons  and vacationers. I honestly found all of the locals  to be some of the most welcoming and friendly people, did I mention how much I like this place?

As soon as a table opened up I moved to a table or bench shall we say.  While watching everyone else I noticed a table of about 8 people watching me and talking but didn’t take any notice as I was doing the same to everyone else.  Eventually one of the women from the table approached my bench and sat down petting someone’s dog, she then turned to me and said excuse me, see that man over there watching us, he thinks you are “Pink”, would you please come over and introduce yourself to him as “Pink” if you do I will buy you a drink  to which I said no I can’t  possibly do that! but thank you I am very flattered, (I mean who wouldn’t be Pink is one of my favorite artists and an icon) I continued to add, but apart from not looking that much like Pink (maybe the hair) when I open my mouth he is going to know I am not her as I have an English accent.  She then proceeded to explain he probably wouldn’t notice as they had had a few drinks and offered me a drink again, to which I suggested she just let him know I am incognito trying to regroup so that I can write more music and would like to be left alone, she left happy with that explanation or so I thought.  A little while later she returned with the gentleman and they sat down and he told me how much he liked me “Pink” to which I said so do I and we discussed several songs and then he asked if I would take a photograph with him,  which I have to be honest I couldn’t resist and he actually hadn’t mentioned the accent or more importantly the lack of a US accent so why not. Several others from their party came over to do the same and he left very happy, the original lady said I had made their day and thanked me again.

I can only imagine when he woke up the next day and looked at the photos that he may have felt a little foolish but I am also sure as he recalled the events of the evening with his friends,  the laughter that must have followed would flow as the story was recalled again and again. For me I  enjoyed my role  in the  story  and again what a compliment to be compared to an icon like Pink,  it absolutely made my weekend!

What would you have done…. would you have been Pink or not?
