All Me,  Awesome

Angst

You know what it is, it’s that feeling, the one that you get just below your ribs a sensation caused by thoughts of doubt, guilt that ultimately causes anxiety.

In my mind, I visualize it as, lets say the arc reactor  that Iron Man has in his chest, except in this case  instead of positive light providing energy or life it is negative light draining our energy and bringing us down.

As much as we try we can’t stop it,  it is all consuming !

Now, imagine  what it would be like if we could physically pull  the angst out  and throw it away, oh that would be wonderful, wouldn’t it? Although that sounds good in all reality (yes back to reality) we need to remove it mentally. In our minds eye, perhaps visualizing  that we are dragging the angst and as we do this, while thinking positively we are able to free all of that negative energy as gunk being pulled from our mind and heart in turn  allowing us  to  rest, think clearly,  be rational and breath a sigh of relief… The only issue is,  how the hell would we prevent it from getting a grip on us again?

Sensation

One that wakes us up or prevents us from going to sleep at night.  Unfortunately, as we know it isn’t something we can physically remove, it is simply a sensation, “bummer”. A sensation  caused by things or thoughts from the past, and we have to remember mind you, that this is often not anything that can be changed. Yet we still dwell on it and question our choices and how they may have effected  ourselves as well as others.

  • Did I cause ……
  • If I had done this ……
  • Am I the reason ……
  • In protecting,…….. did I make it worse ……

Ultimately,  If I had chosen differently,  would it/life be better?

No,  I don’t believe it would, yet it still keeps us up,  where is that off switch to let us sleep when we need it?

Remember,  as Eleanor Roosevelt said “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”. I also know this is true when it comes to our thoughts. We are aware our minds can run away with us, giving us negative thoughts, when that happens we have to remember that ultimately WE are in charge of how that goes  and  WE are able to stop it in its tracks and prevent it from taking a hold. WE HAVE THE POWER to change that narrative..

ON

Our minds are always on,  with no off switch.

A glass half full mindset, positive thoughts and meditation to relax go a long way to reprogramming our minds. Even though our shit seams bad there is, however small, a positive in our life, and we have to use that thought as a reminder to ourselves to let the crap go.  iI is the society that we live in,  social media and  always being “on”,  enforcing that feeling that everything we do is being scrutinized under a microscope shall we say. That, I believe makes it different for our generation and those that follow on.

Growing up we were able to be off the grid,  I think that is what I miss the most, the simplicity of if all.  Drama stopped the moment you left  school  and when you got home you had a different group of friends to the ones you had been around all day and because of this you adapted to different people, circumstances and you were able to avoid the clicks, if that’s what you wanted, ultimately you could chill. Now, your are followed everywhere, drama is all around you and usually you are surrounded by the same individuals online and of, good or bad, never breaking free of the emotional hold it has on you. There is just too much stress caused by always having to be on. So unless it is your business I say turn if all off,  social media will be there next week, next month or even next year, you can choose when it works for you, and when you don’t care for it.   It is just a business, not your life and most of the time not even REAL life,  although they would have you believe it is so. So use it to your benefit as a tool and don’t get pulled into the drama.

Positivity Begets Positivity

I read an awesome article in Psychology Today,  which I feel is well worth the read if you have time, it’s called How The Positivity Effect Can Transform Your Life and is written by Dan J. Tomasulo PhD., TEP, MFA, MAPP.  The article  talks about the positivity effect and the repercussions it can have on all aspects of your life.  A couple of my take aways from the article are When you put your positivity into action, the positive result fills you up.  When this happens, we say that positivity is bi-directional and “The positive effect creates a virtuous cycle-depression is a vicious cycle”.

if we could only get out of our own way and practice positivity I believe we would be much better off.

As you all know from my earlier posts, I don’t do well in clicks, never did and I feel that social media in most cases has become the worse type of click. We have to remember life is live, not a dress rehearsal or a copy of someone else’s,  life is here to be lived, and we should embrace every moment and enjoy the present, not dwell on the what could have or should have been. I have said many times, that as far as we know we are only here once, so  let’s enjoy it.

If we continue to allow our minds to beat us up for something we did, often with the best intentions, then that is where we fail! We must control our own Narrative!

Others opinions or material items don’t make you..

  • Good enough
  • Smart enough
  • Successful
  • Honest

You do! you are all of these and more,  the only thing holding you back from seeing or believing this is you and your Angst!
